Why Choose Clear Transparent Resin?
Clear Transparent Resin is a specialized photopolymer used in Resin 3D Printing (SLA / DLP) for prototypes requiring light transmission and optical clarity. While it appears like frosted glass straight out of the printer, it can achieve PMMA (Acrylic) clarity after sanding and clear coating. It is excellent for producing automotive light pipes, lighting fixtures, transparent electronic housings, and microfluidic channels for flow observation. It is the go-to solution in Concept Prototyping – Visual Models when visibility of internal components is required.
Advantages
Optical Clarity: With proper post-processing (sanding and clear coating), light transmission of over 85% can be achieved.
Smooth Surface: Capable of producing surfaces with minimal layer lines that feel like glass to the touch.
Fine Detail: Can print complex geometries and very fine channels (down to 0.2 mm) with high precision.
Watertight: Provides liquid tightness when printed solid, making it suitable for fluid flow testing.
Limitations
Post-Processing Required: It does not come out clear; professional polishing and varnishing are essential for optical clarity.
Yellowing: May yellow over time if exposed to UV light for prolonged periods (UV-protective coating helps delay this).
Brittleness: More brittle than standard plastics; it does not flex and may crack under impact.

Clear Resin FAQ
Does Clear Resin come out looking like glass?
No. Fresh off the printer, the part has a “frosted glass” (translucent) appearance. To achieve full transparency, the surface must be sanded and clear-coated. We offer this as part of our Product Development – Rapid Prototyping services.
Can it be used for lighting projects?
Yes. Clear Resin has excellent light-piping properties. It is ideal for LED lighting tests, lens analysis, and headlight prototypes in the Automotive and Mobility sector.
How does it differ from Vacuum Casting Clear Resin?
SLA clear printing is faster and cheaper for single, complex units. However, if you need more than 10 units with “flawless” optical quality, Optical Clear Casting Resin (Vacuum Casting) might be a better option.
Does Clear Resin yellow over time?
All photopolymer resins are sensitive to UV light and may yellow slightly over time. We apply a UV-protective acrylic varnish to minimize this effect.
Can you print channels for fluids (Microfluidics)?
Yes. Clear Resin is frequently preferred in Medical and Healthcare Technologies for manufacturing micro-channel structures used in biomedical and laboratory research.
Can the parts be tinted?
Yes. Clear printed parts can be finished in transparent colors (e.g., red, blue, smoked) by adding pigments to the clear coat or using transparent dyes.
